AIKOL

  1. What are the minimum admission requirements to undergraduate programme in AIKOL?

  2. The admission requirement for undergraduate programme (LL.B or LL.B_S) are as follows :
    1. A pass at the SPM level or equivalent with good grades.
    2. A Credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics and other subjects at the SPM level or equivalent.
    3. At least 4B in English language at the SPM level or equivalent and MUET band 3.
    4. A credit in "Pendidikan Islam" or "Tasawwur Islam" or " Pendidikan AL Quran dan As Sunnah" or "Pendidikan Syariah Islamiyyah" at the SPM level or equivalent.
    5. A pass in the IIUM Matriculation final examination with a CGPA of not less than 2.5 and fulfilment of all other requirements for promotion to the first year of the Undergraduate Programme; OR
    6. A Pass with a CGPA of 3.00 or above in STPM; OR
    7. A Pass in the STAM examination with at least Jayyid Jiddan; OR
    8. A Diploma or any other equivalent Qualification with a CGPA 3.00.

  3. What are the minimum requirement for International students to be admitted into LL.B programme in AIKOL?

  4. For international students applying to undergraduate programme in AIKOL, the minimum requirements are :
    1. At least three (3) principal passes in the General Certificate of Education 'Advanced Level' (GCE) 'A' Level Examination (UK Educational System) obtained at one sitting; OR
    2. International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of six (6) subjects obtained at one sitting; OR
    3. Any other qualification that are recognized by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above.

  5. Is there any language requirement for AIKOL students?
    1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - score of 550; OR
    2. International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) - score of 6.0 points.
    3. If applicants do not have either of these qualifications, they may sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT), in which they must obtained at least 6.0 points to fulfill the English Language requirement.

  6. What is the language used as a medium of instruction in teaching and learning in AIKOL?

  7. The medium of instruction for teaching and learning in AIKOL are English or Arabic. English is mainly used in the overall teaching and learning such as lecture, tutorials, class discussions, presentations and communications. However, for students taking LL.B (Shari'ah), the teaching and learning session is conducted in Arabic Language. Bahasa Malaysia, on the other hand, is offered as a specific subject for law students.

  8. Where is/are the features of LL.B programme offered by AIKOL?

  9. The curriculum for LL.B programme in AIKOL is designed to produce professionally competent and qualified legal personnel who are committed to the practice and promotion of Islamic principles and teachings in the legal profession. LL.B students in AIKOL read the Malaysian Law, the Common Law, Islamic Law and International Law. Students are introduced to the practical aspects of the law through the subject of Compulsory Moots, the Law Attachment Programme (LAP) at courts, legal aid bureaus and enforcement agencies, and the Legal Practice Unit all of which supplement the procedural subjects for the final year students. In relevant and appropriate courses, comparative studies are made between Islamic Law and Non-Islamic Law as well as between the Islamic school of Jurisprudence.

  10. What are the difference between LL.B and LL.B (S)?

  11. Students who have successfully completed the LL.B programme and who have demonstrated advanced proficiency in Arabic are eligible to transfer all their credit hours from the first degree to enroll in this programme. In order words, within this period students may obtain double degrees, i.e. LL.B and LL.B_S . In this programme, students are required to take additional credit hours of Shari'ah courses, which will be conducted in Arabic.

  12. What are the subjects in which the students taking LL.B (S) are required to take ?

  13. The additional subjects are as follows:

    • Qur' anic Ayat & Hadith on law
    • Usul al Fiqh
    • Legal Text
    • Asbab Al-Ikhtiaf
    • Fiqh Al-Muqarran fi al-Ahwal Al Shakhisiyyah
    • Islamic Law of Evidence and Procedure


  14. What are the requirements for admission to postgraduate programme in AIKOL?

  15. The are two postgraduate programme at AIKOL offers that is Master of Comparative Laws and Ph.D in Laws.

    The admission requirement for the programme are as follows:

    Ph.D (Law) Programme
    1. Applicants must have a basic degree in Law of Shari'ah;
    2. Applicants must obtain of a good Master's degree in Law or Shari'ah or equivalent.
    3. Applicants with other Master's degree must have at least 5 years working experience in legal field.

    Master of Comparative Law (MCL) Programme
    1. Applicants who have obtain Bachelor degree in Law or Shari'ah or equivalent;
    2. Applicants who have obtained a Bachelor degree in Islamic Studies must satisfy the following criteria :
      1. The undergraduate programme must be comprised of at least 50% of Shari'ah courses;
      2. The Bachelor programme must consist of Shari'ah core courses, namely Fiqh and Usul al Fiqh;
      3. The applicants must have obtained an overall percentage of at least 70%.
    3. Applicants must obtain at least the CGPA of 2.8; OR
    4. Applicants with degree with less than 2.8 but have at least 3 years of relevant working experience might be considered.
